Klassen Surf & Shore Fishing Roosterfish

This was without question the most popular of the shows from my own series Surf & Shore Fishing the World. It was one we filmed in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, casting top-water lures from shore for Roosterfish. We had been catching 50 to 80 pounders from the beach a week before the film crew was to come down, then, the bite absolutely died 3 days before their arrival. My friend Tom and I pounded the surf 15 hours a day with the crew on stand-by. Finally, the night before their scheduled arrival we started hooking them again and I called to tell them to come on down. They arrived at the airport at noon. By 2pm we were at the beach checking cameras, fishing gear etc and the camera guy Kevin, Tom and I began a mock show, to warm up. Right off the first cast we started nailing fish and the mock show became the real show, which we were able to shoot in 2 hours. They were smaller fish, 15 to 25 pounds, but still nice ones. We wanted a larger one though so the next day we went back out, in the same stinky clothes from the previous day (to give the perception of being the same day) and I hit one about 35 to 40lbs. As luck would have it I got nailed by a rogue wave as I released this last fish and I just blurted out … Thats all the time we have for this week, see you next time on Surf & Shore Fishing The World! We couldn’t have planned for a better un-staged ending. As it turned out, the day the crew left we were busting off 100 pounders. Oh well!
